SPEAK OUT!® Speech Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease
Melissa Ford, M.S., CCC-SLP is a Certified SPEAK OUT!® Provider offering speech therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
The SPEAK OUT!® Therapy Program, developed by Parkinson Voice Project®, helps individuals with Parkinson’s and related disorders regain and retain their speech and swallowing.
Parkinson’s disease can affect the muscles used for speech, leading to reduced vocal loudness, breathy or hoarse voice, and difficulty being heard in conversation.
The SPEAK OUT!® Therapy Program focuses on speaking with intent. This approach helps individuals activate stronger neural pathways for speech production.
When followed consistently, the program can improve:
-
Vocal volume
-
Articulation
-
Breath support for speech
-
Vocal quality
-
Intonation
-
Facial expression
The program combines:
-
Education about Parkinson’s and speech changes
-
Individual SPEAK OUT!® therapy sessions
-
SPEAK OUT! Classes for continued practice
-
Daily home practice exercises
-
Ongoing follow-up support
Once patients enter the program, they remain part of it for life.
